PRN inspires visionary leaders who shape innovative and personalized schools.
Our goal is to inspire visionaries to create safe environments where children excel and where all members of the learning community are empowered.
Many teachers would not even consider being an administrator. They may not realize there is an alternative method to getting an administrator’s license and that it promotes creative, thoughtful, flexible student-centered learning. The Principal Residency Network has developed over 250 visionary school leaders.
PRN cultivates reflective school leaders who lead through vision and moral courage, who are committed to social justice and equity and who understand learning, teaching and organizational development. PRN believes the schoolhouse is the best place for developing the next generation of school leaders. Aspiring Principals serve their school community for one year during a rigorous internship comprised of substantive reading, reflection and monthly cohort meetings.
Successful participants earn a K-12 NH Principal Certification and may earn a Masters or CAGS Degree as well.
Through the one-year PRN program, aspiring principals earn a Principal Certificate and if needed, a Master's Degree.
PRN is born of the idea that effective school leaders for the 21st Century are best trained in the schoolhouse, where Aspiring Principals work with Mentor Principals to cope with daily challenges and create learning opportunities for all. A year-long residency in a school, working alongside a mentor principal, is enhanced by focused readings, workshops series and monthly cohort meetings.

Outline of Key Elements

The one-year residency is highlighted by these events:
Summer - one week institute at New England College
June: cohort orientation of paired teams
September-May: regular training sessions in workshop format and with online courses that are reflected on the experience of the residency with a Mentor Principal.
October, December, March: successive drafts of the Aspiring Principal's Learning Plan.
February: presentation of the Aspiring Principal's Vision Paper on leadership.
June: exhibition of competence, portfolio and graduation.
